Hunger for the Lord

old1Living Light’s beginnings as a congregation go back to the 1970s, when many individuals in a traditional denominational church in Kenosha began to experience the dynamic power of the Holy Spirit (and an accompanying fresh understanding of the reality of God) in the context of what was known nationally and internationally as the ‘Charismatic Renewal’.

The resulting prayer group attracted people from other denominations – and indeed with no previous church background – who were hungry for God. Believing that God had called His people to be a light to those around them, they became “Living Light Community”. Having experienced much blessing on a personal level, they began to search through the Bible to discover what God wanted for His people corporately. They felt led to commit themselves to seeing ‘church’ lived out according to God’s blueprint for it, being particularly inspired by the example of the early church in the book of Acts:

"They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved." (Acts 2:42-47)
