Church Life - Home Groups
God loves community. Though He reaches out to the individual, He has always intended to have a people – a family who are united under His Fatherhood. It’s clear from the Bible that, through the saving work of Jesus Christ on the cross, God brings us not only into relationship with Himself, but into relationship with one another, and that this relationship is to be a lived-out reality.
We want all of our times together to reflect the fact that we are a family and that we belong to one another, but there are some aspects of our lives as Christians that are better worked out in closer relationships than one can easily develop on Sunday mornings. Homegroups are an ideal means of satisfying this need, and in fact we expect everyone who considers themselves part of Living Light to belong to a homegroup.
As the name suggests, they are small groups (ranging in size from 10 to 20 people) that meet in people’s homes one evening a week. The informal cozy atmosphere of a home provides an environment which is conducive to growth in relationships with each other and God. Here, we can talk about what God is teaching us as individuals and as a congregation, study the Bible, pray together and worship God in song, support and help one another with encouragement and practical needs – the list goes on!
The homegroup is also an outpost of the Kingdom of God in the community, demonstrating in real-life terms what radical Christianity is all about. Many have been won to Christ through seeing and meeting Christians in a homegroup context.
